Skinny Al // Scott Allan Switzer

What is your name and DJ name?

My full name is Scott Allan Switzer and my DJ name is Skinny Al.

What is the name of your show? What is its format?

That would be Skinny Al’s Blender. It’s basically a mix of music from primarily the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s, and occasionally from this century as well… occasionally. It’s just kind of a mix of music.

SUAP // Gwendolyn Zaxus

What’s your name and your DJ name?

My name is Gwendolyn Zaxus. My DJ name is SUAP (pronounced Soo-app), which stands for Shut Up And Play, because I’m a talk jock [on my own show], but when I’m subbing for other people’s shows, I’m DJ-ing.

What’s the name of your show, and when is it on?

Mad Talk, Wednesday mornings from 9:00 to 11:00.

Please describe your show. What’s its format?

It’s a talk show and, in a nutshell, I help people, including myself, find the cult in culture, through stories, articles, personal experiences and live interviews.

Laine Patterson

What is your name? What is your show called, and what is its format?

Laine Patterson. The show’s called The Cosmic Dawn Music Hour, 9:00 Saturday morning. The Cosmic Dawn was a real astrological event, that happened around 4 million years after the Big Bang when it was dark then the lights came back on in the universe. It was the dawn of new stars, which I translate into more enlightened time and higher consciousness. What better place to create a uplifting music hour than on Madrid’s radio wave 96.9. My show is basically a home-made, mix tape each week – I try to stick to a pattern every week, starting out with something kind of gritty like the Velvet Underground and then move into ethereal, electronic, with heavy bass beat.  I usually include some reggae, rap, pop, funk or soul to get the listener’s day going in a positive way. There are a couple of yoga teachers in our community who actually use my show to warm-up to, and I do appreciate their enthusiasm for The Cosmic Dawn Music Hour.

Ijah // Anthony Umi

What’s your name and your DJ name?

Anthony Umi and my DJ name is Ijah.

What’s the name of your show, and when is it on?

Music Mine (it’s “mine” like a coal or a gold mine, not “mind”), Friday mornings, 9:00 to 10:00am. My idea of this show was that we’re building a collective of music miners for a nice variety. I like to think our musical taste is pretty broad, and we bring variety and diversity with the different DJs digging the music.

Please describe your show. What’s its format?

My format personally is all over the place—I love all genres: jazz, reggae, soul, blues, salsa, African music, Brazilian music; I include music from Europe, China, India (I love Indian classical music and I’m starting to work that in, too).
